The documentary film “Talking About Trees”, directed by Suhaib Qassem Al-Bari, won the award for best documentary film at the 13th American Film Festival (Palm Springs awards).
The film is a joint production between France, Sudan, Germany and Chad, while Moroccan movie “Adam” directed by Maryam Touzani won the award of the local jury.
Among the films that won the historical Russian film “Pinball” was directed by Kantmier Blagoev, who won the “Vipersi Award” as the best international feature film for this year, and previously won two awards for the best director in the “Look What” section of the last “Cannes” film festival.
The Sudanese film “Talking About Trees” won many international awards such as the Mumbai Film Festival Grand Prize, the Best Documentary Film Award at the Berlin Film Festival, in addition to the Special Jury Prize at the Istanbul Film Festival.
In addition to two awards at the El Gouna Film Festival, as the best documentary , and the Variety Prize as the best Arab talent in the Middle East.
The events of the film take place during the year 2015 when the quartet Ibrahim Shaddad, Manar Al-Helou, Suleiman Ibrahim, and Al-Tayeb Mahdi, members of the Sudanese Film Group, who are touring the villages of Sudan to spread cinematic culture, decide to rehabilitate a movie theater to return the audience to the cinema.
The festival, which was held from January 2 to 13, exhibited 192 films from 81 countries. It is an opportunity for the first world premiere of films produced from North America, where the largest selection of films presented to the Academy of Cinematic Arts and Sciences is presented in the category of the best foreign language film “Oscar”.
